Community Events & Recreation Intern

Contract • Kapuskasing Region

Salary Range: $20,000 - $40,000

The Town of Smooth Rock Falls is seeking a motivated and community-oriented individual to join our team as a Community Events & Recreation intern. This position provides an excellent opportunity for an individual interested in municipal recreation, community development, and event coordination.

Working under the direction of the CAO-Treasurer or designate, the successful candidate will assist with the planning, promotion, and delivery of community events and recreational initiatives within the Town of Smooth Rock Falls.

Key Responsibilities:
The Community Events & Recreation Intern will assist with a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
• Assist in the planning and coordination of community events and recreational programs
• Support the delivery and promotion of municipal events and activities
• Assist with recreation scheduling and program coordination
• Help develop promotional materials and social media content
• Support community engagement initiatives and partnerships
• Assist with grant research and sponsorship opportunities
• Collect participation feedback and support program evaluation
• Lead preliminary planning for the Town’s 100th anniversary
• Performing other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:
• Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Comfortable engaging with the public and community groups
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and social media platforms
• Experience with event planning, recreation programming, or volunteer coordination is considered an asset
Additional Requirements:
• Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license
• Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for community events
• Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset

Hours of Work: Regular hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:30 am – 4:00 pm however there will be a requirement for flexibility as evening and weekend work will be required to accommodate meetings, programs and event supervision

Salary: $39,130 per year plus vacation pay as legislated, in accordance with the Employment Standards Act.
